Our Rating:
Annual Fee Interest Rate Balance Transfer Cash Advance Credit Score Good: -- I've had a credit card, or loan for 6+ years. I've had good credit for the last 7 years (no bankruptcies or no defaults on credit as a result of failing to pay debts back to creditors). I haven't opened a new credit card account, loan, or line of credit in the last nine months. I've made the minimum payments on my existing credit cards for the past three months. RateSupermarket.ca's Review

Are Hollywood blockbusters your passion? Do you need to be first in line at the premiere screening of each Marvel movie? Or maybe you're just an Amy Schumer nut (since she seems to be every rom-com as of recent). Then you'll definitely be interested in Scotiabank's SCENE VISA® Card since it earns SCENE rewards points, which means free movies for you!

The card has no annual fee and you're not restricted to using your points just at the movies. You can also use your points at any CARA-affiliated restaurant such as Kelseys, Swiss Chalet, Milestones, or East Side Mario's. That's dinner and a show all on points!

The Scotiabank SCENE VISA® Card earns five SCENE points for every dollar you spend at participating Cineplex Entertainment theatres or online at cineplex.com. You also earn one SCENE point per dollar on all other purchases. And if you dine at CARA restaurants, you'll also earn one additional SCENE point per $3 spent.

This card is a solid addition to your wallet if you are an avid movie goer and often dine at Cara restaurants. Not only does it reward you for your passion, but it also helps to build your credit score and you don't have to pay an annual fee. However, rewards choices are limited and it can take a while to build up points. It won't help you save toward flights on your dream vacation. You also don't want to rack up any debt on this card due to high interest charged on regular purchases and balance transfers.

So it's a great starter credit card – provided you keep your spending in check!

  • No annual fee!
  • You can redeem SCENE points at Cineplex theatres for movie tickets and concessions, or at CARA restaurants (Swiss Chalet, Harvey's, Montana's, Milestones, East Side Mario's, Kelsey's, and more).
  • You can redeem as little as 500 SCENE points to receive $5 off, but depending on what kind of movie ticket you're looking to claim, it'll cost you a different amount of points. For example, you can redeem 500 SCENE points for $5 off concessions, or 1,000 SCENE points for a general admission ticket or $10 off at CARA restaurants. Tickets for premium, 3D or VIP movies will cost you more SCENE points.
  • As a SCENE member, you get 10% more off the already discounted movie tickets on Tuesdays at Cineplex.
  • If you have the general free SCENE points card you can sometimes earn additional points by using both cards.
  • You get purchase protection and extended warranty features with the card.
  • Avis rental car discount up to 25% at participating locations.
  • Eligible for My Mobile Wallet and Apple Pay.

  • You're limited to only earning SCENE points with this card. It does not offer travel rewards or cash back, but if that's what you're interested in, Scotiabank does have a roster of other cards that do offer other types of rewards.
  • The card doesn't come with an extensive travel and health insurance package.
  • You can only earn up to 300 SCENE points per transaction, and up to 600 points per day.
  • With the exception of Swiss Chalet and East Side Mario's, SCENE points are only earned when you dine-in, and not on orders placed online or through the call centre for delivery.
  • This card features a 22.99 per cent balance transfer option. Considering many low-interest balance transfer credit cards offer zero per cent to 1.99 per cent interest in the first six months, and then 8.99 per cent to 11.99 per cent when the promotional period ends, the Scotiabank SCENE VISA® Card should not be used specifically for balance transfers.
