RateSupermarket.ca's Review

If you regularly shop where President's Choice products are sold or make a lot of purchases at Shoppers Drug Mart or PharmaprixMD, you'll likely be interested in the President's Choice Financial® World Mastercard®. With the card, you can earn PC Optimum points at an accelerated rate, which means more points in your pocket. It's no wonder why PC Financial® has some of the best rewards cards on the market!

For a no-fee card, the earning rate on the PC Financial® World Mastercard® can't be beat. You're basically getting 2% in cash-equivalent points at participating stores where President's Choice products are sold and 3.5% at Shoppers Drug Mart and PharmaprixMD. The card also earns 30 points per litre at Esso gas stations. Not to mention the 10 points earned per $1 spent on all other purchases, making this card a decent everyday option as well.

That's a decent amount of free groceries from Fortinos or makeup from Shoppers Drug Mart for a no-fee card. And that doesn't even include any of the targeted offers you would receive for being a PC Optimum member! Within a month, you already have enough points for $25-worth of groceries.

Pros

  • You can redeem points for free groceries or merchandise at President's Choice-affiliated retailers like Loblaws, Fortinos, Joe Fresh and Shoppers Drug Mart – some of the most common grocery chains in Canada.
  • Get 35 PC Optimum points6 for every $1 spent at Shoppers Drug Mart®* and PharmaprixMD.
  • Get 20 PC Optimum points 2for every $1 spent, at other Loblaws-affiliated retailers.
  • Get at least 30 PC Optimum points per litre pumped at Esso gas stations3.
  • Get 10 PC Optimum points for every $1 spent, everywhere else.

  • For a limited time, balance transfers made within the first six months of cardmembership are only subject to a rate of 0.97%. After the first six months, the rate goes back to 22.97%.

Cons

  • You're limited to earning PC Optimum points, so you won't be able to reap the benefits of the card unless you shop at President's Choice-affiliated retailers. The card does not earn cash-back (try one of the best cash-back credit cards in Canada instead!).
  • Minimum redemption is 10,000 PC Optimum points (worth $10 in free rewards) and in increments of 10,000 points thereafter at participating stores.
  • No travel insurance benefits.
