Best Credit Card for Hotel Stays: The Marriott Bonvoy™ American Express® Card

The Marriott Bonvoy™ American Express® Card.

If you are a rewards junkie, you will have heard of this card. It caused quite a stir when it launched earlier this year, and with good reason. Let’s start by looking at the rewards on offer: assuming you meet the modest spending threshold, you receive 50,000 Marriott BonvoyTM points in the first three months. That alone is enough for three free nights at a really nice hotel. You accrue points at a quick rate, with five points earned for every $1 spent at participating hotels (there are over seven thousand of them), and two points for every $1 spent elsewhere. If you already stay at hotels on a regular basis, you can reasonably expect to earn well over $1,000 in rewards in just two years of card use. The perks are excellent too: a free night’s stay at a hotel after your anniversary each year, automatic Silver Elite status at Marriott BonvoyTM hotels and plenty more. The only reason this card doesn’t take over our “best of travel” awards, is that emergency medical travel insurance is not provided.
