Registered GICs can be included with your RRSPs, RRIFs (Registered Retirement Income Fund) and TFSAs (Tax Free Savings Account). These plans can incur penalties when the investment is withdrawn. Non-registered investments are not registered with the federal government, earned income must be included as taxable income each year.
