About Melanie

Growing up in a house of seven on a single income was tough, but my parents were both hardworking, clever and resourceful. As it is in most families, money was a taboo subject and I learned mostly through osmosis, not open conversation. The experience taught me three things: 1. How to stretch a dollar (I’m really, really good at this). 2. That it’s extremely important to talk openly about money. 3. That I never want to be there again (and I won’t). The best part about being a freelance writer (besides the hours) is that I get to learn something new every day and then share what I’ve learned through writing. When I’m not writing for RateSupermarket.ca, I’m writing about real estate, personal finance, marketing and food and agriculture. When I’m not working, I’m playing. Soccer, hockey and triathlons are my sports of choice.
